My Story

I’m Patrick King, CFP®
Founder of Prana Wealth.

I founded Prana Wealth to help others live boldly, pursue their purpose, and know they’ll be okay financially.

My real job isn’t managing your money. It’s having honest conversations about what you want from life, then helping you plan and invest for it. Good financial planning isn’t a roadmap to monetary success. It’s a philosophy of how to live well.

Being both fee-only and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional is the foundation of how I work, and it’s a deliberately small club. No commissions. No product sales. Just unbiased advice you can trust.

My Story

Three ways to work together.

Not everyone needs the same level of support. Here’s how we typically work with the people who find us.

One-Time

Financial Planning with Patrick

$8,000 flat

A complete retirement plan delivered over six meetings in about 90 days. For people who want a real plan but aren’t ready to hand over their investments.

Flat-Fee

Planning with a Prana Team Member

From $3,900/yr

A lower-cost planning option through our vetted planning partner. Dedicated CFP® professional, personalized plan, ongoing coaching sessions.

Three reasons people choose Prana.

Working with us looks different from working with most financial advisors. Here’s why that matters for your retirement.

01

Retirement specialists, not generalists

We focus on the five years before and after retirement, the highest-stakes window in your financial life. That’s where small execution mistakes cost the most, and where the right strategy compounds for decades.

See who we serve

02

Your money stays in your name

Your assets are held by a well-known third-party custodian, in accounts that belong to you. We place trades and bill our fees only with your permission. No lock-in periods, no surrender charges, no long-term contracts. If you ever want to leave, you can.

Read our Fiduciary Oath

03

A philosophy, not a product

We follow a written, factor-based investment process refined for over 20 years. No hot stocks. No market timing. Just discipline, evidence, and a process designed to capture returns wherever they occur.

See our investment philosophy

Freedom to live a different path.

I’m on this path with you. I’m not interested in helping you become wealthy if it takes a toll on your happiness. I don’t want to see you chase dollars at the expense of your relationships, your health, and your spirit.

Let’s find out what we’re playing for first, and then build your finances to support what really matters (and grow your net worth along the way).

Frequently asked.

A few of the questions we hear most often from people exploring retirement planning with Prana.

What is fee-only financial planning?

Fee-only means our compensation comes only from our clients. No commissions, no product sales, no kickbacks from insurance companies or fund providers. When we recommend an investment or strategy, it’s because we believe it’s right for you, not because someone is paying us to suggest it.

Being both fee-only and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional is a deliberately small club. As a fee-only fiduciary practice, Prana Wealth is legally and ethically bound to act in your best interest at all times.

What does it cost to work with Prana Wealth?

We offer three engagement options to fit different stages and needs:

  • Ongoing Wealth Management. A percentage of assets under management, tiered, with lower rates on larger relationships. Best for $1.5M+ in investable assets.
  • One-Time Financial Planning with Patrick. A flat $8,000 for a complete plan delivered over 90 days. No AUM fees, no commissions.
  • Flat-Fee Planning with a Prana Team Member. From $3,900 per year, through our vetted planning partner. For people who want professional guidance but aren’t ready for an $8,000 engagement.

Full pricing details on the What We Do page.

Where do you work with clients?

Prana Wealth is a 100% virtual practice. We work with clients from all across the U.S. While we’re based in Atlanta, we deliberately work virtually so we can focus on doing deep work with the right clients, not on running between in-person meetings.

What’s the difference between a fiduciary and a financial advisor?

The term “financial advisor” is loosely regulated and used by people working in three very different business models:

  • Independent Registered Investment Advisory Firms (like Prana) are paid only by their clients and are legally required to act in your best interest at all times.
  • Brokerage firms can be paid a percentage of what they sell, which can create incentives that aren’t aligned with your outcome.
  • Insurance firm can earn commissions on insurance and annuity products, which can bias the recommendations they make.

Not all financial advisors are fiduciaries. You can review our Fiduciary Oath for the specific commitments we make to every client.

When should I start retirement planning?

The most consequential window for retirement planning is the five years before and after your retirement date. Decisions made during that window (when to claim Social Security, how to sequence Roth conversions, when to enroll in Medicare, how to structure withdrawals) compound for the rest of your life. Small execution errors are very hard to undo once you’ve made them. Most of our clients come to us within that 10-year window, but the earlier you start thinking strategically, the more options you have.

Is my money safe with a fee-only advisor?

Yes. We use well-known third-party custodians (the same firms that likely hold your money today) to actually hold your assets.

We place trades and bill our agreed-upon fees only with your explicit permission. Your accounts are always held in your name.

What if I want to stop working with you?

You can leave any time. There are no lock-in periods, no surrender charges, and no contracts. If at any point you decide we’re not the right fit, we’ll remove ourselves from your accounts and you’ll continue holding your assets at the same third-party custodian. You’re never trapped, and we wouldn’t want you to be.

What are retirement guardrails?

Retirement guardrails are a withdrawal strategy that adjusts how much you spend in retirement based on how your portfolio performs. Instead of picking a fixed withdrawal rate and sticking to it no matter what (the traditional 4% rule), guardrails define upper and lower spending boundaries that flex with market conditions.

If markets do well and your portfolio grows beyond a certain threshold, you can safely spend a bit more. If markets struggle and your portfolio drops below a lower threshold, you scale spending back temporarily to keep the plan on track. The thresholds, the guardrails themselves, are calculated from your specific situation.

This approach was developed by financial researchers Jonathan Guyton and William Klinger, and it has consistently outperformed fixed-withdrawal strategies in academic studies. It also matches how real retirees actually behave: spending more in good years, less in lean ones. It’s one of the most powerful tools we use to give clients confidence that their retirement plan will work, no matter what the market does.
